Global Sources metrics show pipe fittings overtaking aluminum composite panels in the list of building materials-related postings for April 2008. The category had nearly 17 percent share of the top 10 positings during the period.

In the past months, pipe fitting makers in China have been upgrading manufacturing capability to reduce wastage and improve operations amid higher spending for materials and labor.

Some companies have also switched to high-performance plastic such as HDPE, which has remained relatively stable in terms of cost. Others are moving upscale to application-specific products to justify any increase in prices.
